The Nationals, 2009

The annual national tournament started yesterday. More then 200 boxers and 300 kickboxers. Fights last for 13 days with about 100 fights per day. Starts at 1 p.m. at the Tae Kwon Do facility at Olympic Stadium complex. Please come support local fighters.

  2. It’s a giant fight tournament. This year it will last 13 days and include 332 Khmer boxers and 225 amateur boxers (3 rounds x 3 minutes with headgear).

    Fighters are broken up by weight and division. Division A are the better fighter, Division B the novices. It’s all single elimination. Winners advance; losers go home. In the end, 8 titles in both A and B divisions get handed out: 48, 51, 54, 57, 60, 63.5, 67 and 71. Or something like that.

    It happens only once per year. A lot of fighters fight, but not everyone. Some kickboxers go for boxing. It’s a great time. All the fighters come and do what the love. It’s like a big fight carnival.
